Washington Theater Future Plans
Washington Theater Future Plans
The Washington Theater has completed installation of a new state-of-the-art electronic message board on its historic front marquee. The project was funded through a donor gift specifically designated for replacing the previous electronic sign. The new display was installed by Century Signs of Quincy, the firm that removed and restored the marquee in 2009, when the theater’s first electronic message board was introduced.
Local Matching Gift
A local Quincy family has established a $200,000 matching challenge. Every donation of $250 or more will be matched dollar-for-dollar, allowing contributions to have twice the impact while the challenge is in effect.
Donate Now – Matching Gift$3.5 Million Campaign
The Washington Theater is in the midst of a $3.5 million campaign to complete the essential upgrades needed for regular, year-round use. While this funding will not finish the full restoration, it will allow the theater to install a new HVAC system, address core plumbing and electrical needs, improve accessibility, and make key upgrades to the lobby, auditorium, and stage areas. These improvements will support more performances and community events, strengthen nearby businesses, and position the theater for continued fundraising toward a fully remodeled, multi-purpose venue.

A Brief Look Back
Opened in 1924, the Washington Theater has long been a landmark for movies, live performances, and community gatherings. Its architecture and marquee remain defining features of downtown Quincy.
